My Cricut lives on the kitchen counter from September through November and my partner has given up asking when it goes back in the closet. It does not go back in the closet. Last October I had vinyl scraps stuck to the bottom of the toaster and a witch hat half-weeded next to the coffee maker, and honestly that is just what fall looks like in our house now.
Witch designs are the ones I keep coming back to. Pointy hats, brooms, that classic flying silhouette across a full moon. This is the file I reach for first every single year. Plain witch silhouette, broom, the works, sized to cut on a standard Cricut mat without me fighting the design space for twenty minutes. I put it on a black tote bag in heat transfer vinyl and carried it to the grocery store all October like a smug raccoon.
The layers come split out properly, which sounds boring until you have wrestled a file where everything is welded into one impossible shape. Not this one. Weeding took maybe four minutes and I had the radio on.
One gripe. The broom bristles are thin, so if you size the whole thing under five inches they want to lift off the mat. I bumped my pressure setting up one notch and used a brand new blade and they behaved. Old blade and they will fray on you.
Witch Stakes For The Flowerbed That Died In August
These are laser cut files, so I cannot run them on my Cricut, but my neighbor has a little diode laser in her garage and she cut a set in birch ply while I held her coffee. We stuck them in the front flowerbed, which by October is basically a graveyard of tomato plants anyway, so the theme fit.
The hat and broom shapes catch the porch light at night in a way a flat printed stake never would. Three of them in a row down the walkway and the neighbor’s kid genuinely slowed his bike to look.
If you seal them, do it before you stake them. We did not, and after one good rain the bottoms of two stakes swelled and went fuzzy. A coat of outdoor poly would have saved them. Lesson filed under things I say every year and never do.
Bookmarks I Made Instead Of Buying My Sister A Gift
My sister reads four books a week and is impossible to shop for, so last fall I had a batch of these cut from thin basswood and handed them out like party favors. Bat shapes, a little witch hat one, a spider. She actually uses the cauldron one and texts me photos of it sticking out of her library hauls.
They are delicate, which is the whole appeal and also the whole risk. Thin wood, fine cuts, very pretty in the hand. The spider legs are the weak point, so whoever runs the laser should slow the cut speed down a touch on those.
I sanded the edges with a nail file because I am not a woodworker and that is what was in the bathroom drawer. Worked fine. Smelled like a campfire for a day.
Spider Web Earrings That Outlasted My Costume
I wore these to a party where my actual costume fell apart by nine o’clock and the earrings were the only thing holding the whole witch look together. Cut from thin black acrylic by the same neighbor, who is now basically my unpaid fabrication department. The web pattern is fine and a little hypnotic and weighs almost nothing on the ear.
Get your earring hooks sorted before you cut, because the little hole for the jump ring is sized for standard findings and if yours are chunky you will be re-drilling. Mine were the cheap ones from the craft store and they slid right in.
Acrylic edges can come off the laser with a slightly cloudy frost. A quick rub with a soft cloth brought the shine back. Do not use your nail to scrape it, ask me how I know.
A Whole Coven Across The Living Room Window
This bundle is the one that turned my front window into the thing people comment on. Multiple flying witch poses, different brooms, a couple mid-cackle. I cut them in matte black vinyl on the Cricut and stuck them straight to the glass in a swooping diagonal toward a paper moon I taped up in the corner.
Having variety in the bundle is what sells it. One repeated witch looks like a clip art accident. Five different silhouettes at different sizes looks like they are actually flying somewhere with intent.
Vinyl on glass needs patience. I went too fast on the first one, trapped a bubble right under the broom, and it stared at me for the entire season. Use a scraper and a slow hand. The cats, by the way, thought the witches were birds and sat under the window for hours.
A Door Sign That Made The Mail Carrier Laugh
Laser file again, and this one we cut larger from a half inch board because I wanted it to feel like a real sign and not a craft. Salem witch lettering, a hat motif, the kind of thing that hangs on the front door from a ribbon. Our mail carrier laughed out loud the first day it went up, which I count as a five star review.
The lettering is the detailed part, so material choice matters. We tried it once in cheap MDF and the small interior cuts charred dark and looked muddy. Birch ply, second attempt, came out crisp.
I painted mine deep purple instead of the obvious orange and I stand by it. Hung it with twine from a little nail. One windy night it spun around backward and greeted nobody for a day until I noticed.
The Layered Troll That Ate An Entire Saturday
This is a multilayer 3D paper build and I will be honest, it is a project, not a quick win. I cut every layer in cardstock on the Cricut, then stacked and foam-taped them up into a chunky little troll with real depth to him. He sits on the bookshelf now glowering at the spines.
The payoff is that depth. Stacked cardstock with foam dots between layers throws tiny shadows and the whole thing stops looking like paper and starts looking like an object. People pick him up.
Label your layers as they come off the mat. I did not, ended up with a pile of nearly identical green shapes, and reassembled the face wrong twice before the eyebrows finally sat right. A pencil number on the back of each piece, that is all it takes.
The Simpler Troll For When Saturday Is Already Booked
Same troll energy, fewer layers, and that is exactly why I keep this one too. When I do not have a whole afternoon, this is the version I run. Cardstock, a handful of pieces, assembled in under an hour with a glue stick and a podcast.
It is a paper cut style build, so the look leans flatter and a little more graphic than the deep stacked one above. For a mantel piece tucked between two candles that flatness is honestly fine. Not everything needs to be a sculpture.
My one note is the glue. A wet glue warped one panel on me and it dried with a sad little curl. Switch to a glue stick or double sided tape for the big flat pieces and you skip the warping entirely. The troll thanks you.
Faux Stained Glass For The Kitchen Window
I am obsessed with these. Gothic stained glass style designs that you cut and back with colored vellum or translucent paper, and when the late afternoon sun comes through the kitchen window they glow like the real thing for about a tenth of the effort. My partner walked in, stopped, and asked when we got stained glass.
The cut itself is intricate, lots of thin connecting lines, so this is a fresh blade and slow speed situation on the Cricut. Rush it and the delicate bits tear when you weed.
Backing it is the fun part and the fiddly part. I used colored tissue at first and it was too flimsy and wrinkled. Switched to vellum and it laid flat and held the color much better. Tape it from behind so no adhesive shows through the front.
The Witch Hat Sign For The Back Door Nobody Decorates
Everybody fusses over the front door and forgets the back one, so this witch hat Salem sign went on ours by the patio where we actually come and go. Smaller than the front sign, a single bold hat silhouette with lettering, and it greets me every morning when I let the dog out for his dramatic dawn patrol.
The hat shape is clean and reads instantly even at a smaller size, which is the whole point of a sign. No squinting required from the driveway.
Mine is a laser cut, but the silhouette is simple enough that I genuinely think it would work as a vinyl decal on a blank wood round if you only have a Cricut. I sealed this one, finally learning my lesson from the garden stakes, and it sailed through a rainy week with no fuzzing at all.

If you mean styling a cauldron motif into your decor, I treat the cauldron as the anchor of a little vignette. A cut file cauldron sign on the mantel, a real plastic cauldron full of candy under it, maybe some green vellum behind a stained glass piece nearby for that bubbling glow.
The trick is keeping it grouped. One cauldron element floating alone looks lost. Cluster it with two or three other witchy bits and the whole corner suddenly reads as deliberate instead of leftover.
Before You Print
If you only grab one file to start, make it the basic witch silhouette. It is the most forgiving cut, it goes on anything, and it is the one I have used so many times the file is practically worn out, which is not how files work but you know what I mean.
Make the door sign for the back door too. Nobody decorates the back door and your dog deserves a witch hat to walk past at six in the morning.
